In short

MastView collects no data and transmits nothing anywhere. There is no analytics, no advertising, no sign-up and no accounts. It sends nothing to us or to third parties: the app simply has no server to talk to.

Permissions and why they are needed

• Location — the source of course and speed over ground (COG, SOG) and of the start-line calculation. Coordinates are processed on the device and shown on its own screen; they are not stored in any cloud and are not sent anywhere.
• Bluetooth — receiving NMEA 0183 data from the boat's sensors: the masthead anemometer and the log. The exchange happens directly between the phone and the sensor. Android also requires the location permission in order to scan for Bluetooth devices — that is the platform's rule, not our wish to know where you are.
• Local network (Wi-Fi) — only if you switch on the NMEA server or connect to an onboard gateway. The connection stays inside your own network (a second phone, or OpenCPN) and never leaves it.

What is stored on the device

Your settings only: the chosen theme, units, sensor calibrations, connection addresses and the start-line marks. All of it lives in the app's storage on the phone and is removed together with the app.

Children

The app is not directed at children and collects no data about anyone, children included.

Changes

Should the app's behaviour ever change, this page will be updated before the corresponding version is released.

Safety on the water

MastView is an aid, not a navigation or rescue device. Data may be interrupted or lost. The helmsman is responsible for the safety of the crew and the boat; navigation and collision avoidance are done with proper means under the COLREGs.
